✔ Bacchus - plaster sculpture depicting the ancient god of winemaking (Dionysus among the Romans). The most famous monument on this theme was created by the great Italian painter and sculptor Michelangelo in 1497. This masterpiece is a majestic two-meter marble statue depicting the cheerful Bacchus, solemnly holding a cup of wine. His head is crowned with a wreath of grape leaves and bunches, which is an integral and well-recognized attribute of this deity.
Today, this work adorns the collection of the Bargello Museum in the Italian city of Florence. Several other famous plaster statues of Bacchus are found in St. Petersburg. For example, one of them (1791) was housed in the State Hermitage, where it was brought from Tsarskoye Selo at one time. Another monument to the ancient god of viticulture and winemaking occupies a worthy place in the Summer Garden, along with a number of other majestic sculptures.
