✔ Venus Callipiga is a plaster sculpture (circa 50 BC) depicting the goddess Aphrodite, dressed in a tunic, but with bare buttocks. This monument is considered a copy of a lost Greek sculpture made of bronze. The work was found on the ruins of the Golden House of the Roman Emperor Nero in a damaged condition (he had no arms, head and lower leg). Subsequently, the plaster statue was repeatedly restored (in the 16th century and completely at the end of the 17th century by the famous master Carlo Albacini).
According to some reports, the unpreserved original of this sculpture adorned the temple of Aphrodite in the Greek city of Syracuse. As for the Roman counterpart, at one time it was in the collection of the Dukes of Farnese, and then ended up in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, where it can be seen to this day. One of the modern copies of Venus Kallipiga is located in Russia - a bronze monument of bright gold color is part of the composition of the Grand Cascade of Petrodvorets in St. Petersburg.
