✔ Statue of Dionysus - a plaster copy of the famous Greek sculpture of the ancient god of winemaking. Such monuments were actively made by numerous craftsmen of Ancient Greece and Rome to decorate libraries, courtyards and gardens of wealthy citizens. The classic image of Dionysus is represented as a young man holding a bunch of grapes in one hand and a goblet of wine in the other. On his head is a wreath of the same bunches of grapes.
One of the most famous plaster statues of Dionysus is located in the hall of the same name in the New Hermitage. It was created in the distant 4th century BC, but it has survived well to this day, as it was in Tsarskoye Selo in the personal collection of Empress Catherine II. Another bust of this ancient Greek god from 1850 is displayed in one of the halls of the State Hermitage. Initially, it was only the head of a statue, but after restoration it turned out to be only a bust.
