 ✔ The statue "Psyche with a Butterfly" (Cupid and Psyche) is the most famous work of Antonio Canova, a classical sculptor from Venice. The work on this marble monument was completed in 1793, and in 1801 it was bought by the Napoleonic military leader Murat and transferred to his estate in the vicinity of Paris. From 1824 to the present day, this plaster statue occupies an important place in the Louvre collection.

 The plot of the monument is based on the scene of Psyche awakening with Cupid's kiss. The legend about the relationship of these mythical lovers was first described in the novel by the ancient author Apuleius "The Golden Donkey". There are also copies of this famous plaster sculpture, one of which was created in 1796 by order of Yusupov and is now in the State Hermitage. Another replica of Canova's work was made in 1808 at the request of Empress Josephine, Napoleon's wife. Today this monument is also located in the collection of the main museum of St. Petersburg.
